Greenleas Primary School

Friday Letter

12th September 2008

Dear Parents

We would like to give a special welcome to all those children and parents who have just joined the school. We look forward to working with you over the next seven years. Please come and talk to us if you have any worries, questions or suggestions.

All parents of children in years 1 to 6 should today have received an Information Booklet for their child’s year group. An information evening will be held in a couple of weeks about the Foundation Stage curriculum for parents of new children.

Can I remind Year 6 parents that I will be holding an information session for parents regarding secondary transfer on Monday evening at 6.30pm.

The first GSA (Greenleas School Association) meeting will be held on Tuesday 23rd September at 7.45 in the staff room. All parents are welcome. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas.

The School Food Trust, working in collaboration with Disney Pixar, is running a competition called the Magic Meal Ticket.  Children can download a voucher from www.myhighschoolmusical3.com/sft and from Monday 15th September, for 2 weeks, they can present a voucher to the school canteen when they purchase a school meal and their voucher will be stamped.  The vouchers (up to a maximum of 10) can then be posted to: Magic Meal Ticket promotion, School Food Trust, N9, Moorfoot, Sheffield, S1 4PQ.  On 30th September, the first 100 vouchers drawn will win an Ipod shuffle (1G) and vouchers numbered 101-105 will win four tickets to the London Premiere of High School Musical 3 on 7th October (travel paid).  Please note that children who take free school meals are eligible for this competition. Other things on the website include healthy eating recipes, blogs from the stars of High School Musical, exclusive games, wallpapers and downloads.

We understand that separated parents may need separate copies of important letters and school reports. Please would you inform the school office if you feel this is appropriate.

From time to time we take photographs or film children in school. These photographs are then used on displays in school or occasionally in our prospectus or on our website or in promotional DVDs. We also allow the filming of school productions such as nativity plays and concerts.  We follow guidance regarding the use of images of children and always ensure that pictures are appropriate and that children’s names are not shown with photographs. We always seek parental permission for children’s photographs to be used in any other way eg by the local press.  Would you please notify school in writing if you do not wish your child’s photograph to be used in school.

Already we have a growing collection of lost property. To help us return jumpers, coats and other items of uniform to your child, please would you make sure that everything is clearly named.

Yours sincerely
