Health Promoting Schools

Greenleas is proud to be a Health Promoting School. We have both a local and national award recognising our good practice in this area. We meet the satndards for Physical Exercise, Healthy Eating, PSHE (inluding Drugs education and Sex and Relationships education) Citizenship and Safety.

It is our aim to encourage a whole school approach to food and nutrition, which will provide apositive role model for children and young people and contribute to the development of a sensible approach to food and health.

"A whole day-whole school approach to food and nutrition helps to create a better, healthier environment for everyone in school".

The following activities already take place in school. They help to ensure a health promoting environment in terms of healthy eating for pupils and staff.

1. Break time milk with the option of fluoride milk.

2.Water provision - water machines accessible throughout the day.

3. Rewards that don't involve confectionary or other food.
4. Healthy tuck shop selling toast, fruit and seed snacks.

5. Free fruit scheme in Foundation and KS1

6. Promotion of healthy snacks at playtime
We encourage parents to bring in a healthy packed lunch for their children and not to provide sweets to celebrate birthdays or holidays.

Thank you to all the parents for your support in encouraging children to be more aware of nutrition and health.

Did you know research shows that people who skip breakfast are more likely to:

  • Have an accident.
  • Snack on junk food before noon.
  • Be overweight.
  • Get emotionally upset.
  • Find it hard to concentrate.
  • Do worse than they could at school or work.
  • Die younger.
